It was such a busy week that I didn't get in much scrap play. But I did get out my green scraps and start making some blocks.
- This linky ...
I have a few more miscellaneous compassion quilt finishes to share today. Over the holidays I got busy and quilted up a number of quilt tops - I am finally finishing the binding on a few.
Someone sent me in a huge stack of colorful string blocks. I was able to sort them into two quilt tops. Here is the first finish I made with them. I know this quilt will bring a much-deserved smile to someone's lips. It is so lovely!
Most of this week was spent quilting and sewing the bindings on Compassion Quilts.
Happy Sunday!
This whole weekend I have been fighting a horrible head cold.
It has certainly turned my brain to mush!
I wanted to see where I was regarding blocks so I put them up on my design wall. Originally, I was going to make a 5 x 6 layout but I think I am going to do a 60" x 70" quilt for my Compassion Quilt project. That means I need 19 more blocks - definitely needs ...
read moreI had a little bit of time this week to sew so I thought I would get out a bin of scraps and sew up a few more Two Bits blocks. I thought my yellow bin might be fun to play with.
I made these five Two Bits blocks. I already had the 9-patches in my parts department so it was just a matter of sewing on the strips. I was surprised to find that my yellow scrap bin really doesn't have a lot of true yellow scraps. I have lots of gold, and acid green/yellow. But ...
read moreLast week, I spoke to the Ladies of the Lake Quilt Guild in Longview Washington. I also taught my Two Bits class. I was so inspired by everyone's blocks, I had to come home and make a few of my own.
I decided to get out my orange scrap bin and work on these four blocks. The nine-patches came out of my spare parts stash. I think I might try and make some blocks each week until I have enough for a quilt. I miss playing with my scraps.
These blocks go together so quickly and burn thru all ...
read moreI felt like doing a little scrap sewing this weekend so I pulled out my brown scraps. They don't get very much attention from me.
The Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for October is Light Neutrals. I decided for me that meant brown. I pulled four mini 9 patches from my spare parts box and made some quick Two Bits blocks. I am really pleased with how they turned out (even though they are brown). They didn't make a dent in my scrap bin but at least I felt like I tried!
Now that I put all my RSC blocks into a quilt top, I decided to go ahead and start a new Rainbow Scrap Challenge project.
The color for September is aqua (I am including turquoise and teal in that). I have a bunch of 3.5" nine-patches that I have been making from small bits. I pulled out any of them that had aqua and decided to start with those. I used my Two-Bits Scrap Mixology pattern to make these five 10.5" blocks.
I am hoping this project will keep me focused on using my scraps. My bins continue ...
read moreIt is Friday again and I have another finish to share with all of you.
Late last year, I needed to come up with some scrap quilt ideas to use up some of my low volume scraps. I decided to pull my Two Bits pattern and start a new RSC quilt. I would make the Churn dash variation in the RSC color and frame it in some low volume strips.
I went with the straight layout with the blocks "kissing".
The scraps have been flying this week but I don't have a lot that I am ready to share with you today. I pulled a bunch more orphan blocks for my placemat project and have about six that just need quilting. And I have been working on the quilts for the next Scrap Mixology Module I hope to publish next month.
I scheduled some sewing time this weekend but with the sun shining and the scent of lilacs in the breeze, I am finding it really hard to stay indoors.
It is a new month so that means a new RSC color. April is pink so I have been busy sorting out my pink scraps and organizing which of my projects need the color.
But I still needed to finish up two more of my Bloom blocks in yellow for last month. This project requires no pink blocks so I will not need to make any blocks for this quilt in April.
After sorting my pink scraps, I did get one of my Two Bits blocks completed. I already made a few pink blocks last year for this project so ...
read moreI finally found some time this week to start sewing up my yellow scraps for my RSC blocks. I don't really have a lot of yellow scraps so I spent a lot of time sorting my scraps into little piles that were the right size for each of my blocks.
Then I cut all the necessary bits to size. Now I can easily sew them up!
I finished one more of my RSC Two Bit blocks.
I already have three yellow blocks from last year so just one is needed.
I also need a total of eight of my ...
read moreEven though February is a short month, I still finished all of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks this month. That makes me happy!
I don't know about everyone else, but I am so happy to put 2021 in the rearview mirror.
Let's all have hope that this new year is a better one.
With only a few more days left in 2021, I thought I had better make a final decision on what Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks I am going to make for 2022.
I am keeping it simple this year!
Just popping in today to share a quick little finish.
I recently taught one of my Scrap Mixology workshops and we were talking out making holiday gifts. We decided the Two Bit block would make a fun potholder. So when I got a chance, I made a couple to toss in my training bin to share at future workshops.
I pulled the mini 9 patch out of my spare parts and the rest of the fabric came out of the scrap bins. I think they turned out kind of cute. They are purple...what is not to love!
